TASA releases 2020 Texas Teacher of the Year online application 

June 6, 2019

Deadline for district- or charter operator-nominated teachers of the year to complete the 2020 Texas Teacher of the Year online application (by their ESC's close of business - applications are sent directly to each ESC awards coordinator)

June - July 2019

Judging takes place at the Regional ESCs to determine the 40 Texas Teacher of the Year semifinalists (Regional Teachers of the Year)  

July 25, 2019

Regional ESCs’ 2020 Teacher of the Year selection process ends  

August 1, 2019

Regional selections for Elementary Teacher of the Year and Regional Secondary Teacher of the Year due to TASA by 5 p.m. CST  

August 5, 2019

Semifinalist judging takes place at TASA Headquarters in Austin to determine the six Texas Teacher of the Year finalists

August 8, 2019

Region 7 Education Service Center Luncheon

Finalists' districts notified; press release announcing the 2020 Texas Teacher of the Year finalists released (In years past, the announcement has been made on the very busy first day of school in late August. Delaying the notifications/announcements until September is intended to give districts more time to prepare their local celebrations. Many like to surprise their finalist with a special assembly, etc.)

Texas Teacher of the Year finalists interviewed; judges select one Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and one Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year (one is chosen to represent Texas in the National Teacher of the Year program) 

October 24, 2019

The Regional Teachers of the Year meet in Austin for an evening orientation dinner.  

October 25, 2019

The Texas Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony is held in Austin, and the Texas Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year are announced. 

October 30, 2019

The completed National Texas Teacher of the Year packet is due to TASA for signature and submission to the national office on behalf of the 2020 Texas Teacher of the Year.
